Siri Karoline Thornhill


Lyric soprano Siri Karoline Thornhill studied in her hometown of Stavanger, Norway and did her masters degree at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague. She gathered further important impulses in master-classes with Anna Reynolds and Elly Ameling, and has sung with such conductors as Iván Fischer, Ton Koopman, Bruno Weil, Philippe Herreweghe, Thomas Hengelbrock, Ivor Bolton, Gijs Leenars, Daniel Reuss, Rolf Gupta, Ottavio Dantone und Fabio Biondi. Her musical partners include ensembles as Konzerthausorchester Berlin, La Petite Bande, Freiburger Barockorchester, Balthasar Neumann Ensemble, Stavanger Symfoniorkester, Kammerorchester Basel, Concertgebouw Kamerorkest, Opéra National de Bordeaux and Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra.

Guest appearances have taken her to major concert halls, including Konzerthaus Berlin, Berliner Philharmonie, Gasteig München, Frauenkirche Dresden, St. Michaelis Hamburg, Alte Oper Frankfurt, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., Oslo and Stavanger Konserthus, Wiener Konzerthaus, Konzertverein Graz, the Palais des Beaux Arts in Brussels, Auditorium Bordeaux, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées, Salle Garnier in Monte Carlo and Sala Verdi in Milan.

Siri Thornhill has been invited to perform at major festivals including the Handel Festivals of Göttingen and Halle, Thüringer Bachwochen, the Rheingau Music Festival, Mozartfest Augsburg, Tage alter Musik Regensburg, Haydnfestival Eisenstadt, Beethoven Fest Bonn, Festival international de l’Opera Beaune, the Early Music Festivals in Bruges and Utrecht, the Oslo Chamber Music Festival, the Sydney Festival and Rencontres musicales de Vézelay.

Opera performances include such roles as Miss A in Luke Bedford’s “Through his Teeth” and Pamina in Mozart’s “Die Zauberflöte” and she has performed at theatres and festivals in Freiburg, Halle, Kristiansand, Beaune and Komische Oper Berlin. Further Mozart-roles in her repertoire are Donna Anna, 1. Dame, Venere and La Contessa. Last season she appeared as Königin Orasia in Telemann's opera "Orpheus, oder Die wunderbare Beständigkeit der Liebe", in a production in the opera in Hildesheim, staged by Sigrid T'Hooft.

Her extensive discography includes CD-recordings of Bach cantatas with La Petite Bande and Sigiswald Kuijken (Accent) as well as all solo cantatas for soprano with the Kölner Kammerorchester and Helmut Müller-Brühl (Naxos). Furthermore, she recorded “Matthäus-Passion” with the Nederlandse Bachvereniging and Jos van Veldhoven (Channel Classic Records) and cantatas and “Membra Jesu Nostri” of Buxtehude in Ton Koopman’s Opera Omnia Project (Channel Classic Records). Among her most recent world-premiere-recordings of Simon Mayr’s opera “Telemaco” (main-role), Mayr’s “Missa di Gloria” and a reconstructed “Requiem” by Donizetti (Naxos). In July 2017 her first Lied-CD with songs of Edvard Grieg was released (Ars Produktion).
